How does iOS smart reset work?

First, Blancco Mobile Eraser checks if the device has already been factory reset (the device is in the welcome screen) and if user data is found on the device.

If the device is clean (factory reset and no user data found):

  • Erasure report is created. The report shows the erasure method as ‘iOS smart reset (Verification)’.

If the device is not clean (user data found):

  • User is prompted to either run erasure OR clear the device with manual factory reset:
    • User erases device.  Erasure report is created. The report shows the erasure method as ‘iOS smart reset (Apple iOS erasure)’.
    • User resets the device manually from device settings. Erasure report is created. The report shows the erasure method as ‘iOS smart reset (Manual factory reset)’.
