USB Creator 4.0 and newer

Problem

When using USB Creator to create a boot drive of Blancco Drive Eraser - Enterprise Volume Edition, an error is shown for an 'invalid serial number'.

Cause

USB Creator has to validate the serial number of the USB -drive to allow for Enterprise Volume Edition to work when assigning licenses to the USB -drive. If the USB -drive does not have a valid serial (letters from a-z, A-Z & 0-9) then the validation fails and it can't be used. Usually, if the serial is not valid then the USB Drive does not have a serial number at all, which is a requirement.

Resolution

To troubleshoot your USB -drive, you can run the following command in Windows' Command Prompt:

wmic diskdrive get Name,InterfaceType,SerialNumber

This will list out the USB -device and if the Serial -field is empty or has an invalid serial then the USB -drive can't be used:

If a serial number can't be applied to the USB -drive based on the manufacturer's instructions, then another drive has to be used with USB Creator which uses a proper serial number.
