How to force Windows Home on a device

      Description

This article will cover how to force the installation of Windows Home on a device if the user is unable to select an edition from the installation media. This is necessary for following best practices when creating and capturing an image with Key Deploy.

      Step-by-step instructions

      1. Download the Media Creation Tool or the Windows 11 ISO

      1. Mount the ISO in Explorer or use Rufus or AnyBurn

      1. With a text editor, create a file called “ei.cfg” and add the following. Then, place the file in the sources directory

[EditionID] Home [Channel] Retail [VL] 0
      1. If available, delete the PID.txt file from the sources directory

      1. Repack the ISO
