Follow these instructions to update your existing Blancco Management Console (On-premise) to Blancco Management Portal (On-premise).
Requirements
As part of the upgrade the on-premise installation needs to be registered with Blancco Management Portal. To successfully register an installation it is required to have:
Internet connection between the on-premise installation and the Blancco Management Portal. Traffic to below endpoints needs to be allowed:
Access to a Blancco Management Portal tenant with Blancco Management Portal (On-premise) license(s) available.
After successfully completing the upgrade the Blancco Management Portal (On-premise) installation will periodically synchronize with the Blancco Management Portal requiring the installation to have at least periodic internet connection to reach the Blancco Management Portal. You can find more detailed information about the syncronization process here: Registration and Syncronization Process with Blancco Management Portal (On-Premise)
Before the Upgrade
Before applying any changes to a production environment make sure you have created necessary backups of your current installation and the database.
If any problem occurs during the update process the changes need to be reverted using a database backup.
Upgrade Process
To begin the upgrade process, run the .jar installation package with administrator rights. Executing the .jar installer via command line with the following command allows you to see more verbose logging if any issues are seen during the process:
java -jar <installer package name>.jar
If you require a proxy to be used please refer to Using proxy with Blancco Management Portal - On-Premise for more details.
After launching the installer follow below steps to complete the upgrade:
Language select - Select appropriate language to be used.
Read and accept the End User License Agreement.
Selecting the installation path - If you are updating from Blancco Management Console make sure to target the existing Blancco Management Console installation path. By default Blancco Management Console uses installation path of “C:\Program Files\Blancco\Blancco Management Console”.
If you selected existing directory the below warning is displayed, click “Yes” to continue.
An additional warning is displayed if existing installation of BMC has been found from the provided installation path, click “OK” to continue updating the existing installation.
Installer asks you to stop the existing service to proceed, make sure “Stop Blancco Management Portal On-Premise” is selected and click “Next” to continue.
BMP registration - Copy registration code from your BMP tenant and paste the code to the installer and click “Next” to continue. If the on-premise installation cannot communicate with the Blancco Management Portal or incorrect code is provided this step fails.
If you have problems with the registration steps, refer to Working with Blancco Management Portal - On-Premise Registration Problems for more details.
Continue the process following on-screen instructions until you see the “Installation complete” screen.
